Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Hello Lacky Welcome to FPCH Did you install the printer driver first?
lacky Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 cheers, , is it not on the install cd, the first time i installed i downloaded a driver off the epson website
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Yes it should be on the CD that came with the printer, however you may have 2, one for Windows and one for a Mac operating system, obviously make sure that you insert the one for Windows.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 What is the make and model of the printer Lacky? Do you also have Service Pack 3 for XP
lacky Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 it,s a epson stylus 4400 and the other bit i don,t know. cheers
RandyL Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Hi lacky; I assume you mean it's an Epson stylus CX4400. If so download the PDF file named Start Here from the. CX4400 download page. Or directly download the PDF file. (Right click and SaveAs) Carefully follow the instructions to setup and install the printer and software. Notes: If any software did install then uninstall it first. If the printer is listed in the Control Panel remove it. You can not install the printer by the Add Hardware Wizard. Turn off your Antivirus program before installation. Turn off power options especially the Screensaver before installing. Let us know how it goes lacky. Good luck. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 This printer appears not to be supported by Epson any more Lacky. Can I ask if you have bought this brand new from somewhere recently?
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Then I suggest you take it back Lacky as the Epson site does not have drivers for this model. This list is what Epson support at time of writing Lacky. Epson Driver Download

Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Did you download the very top file listed here lacky Epson Stylus DX4400 : Drivers & Software
RandyL Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Direct download of the Setup Guide. (Right click and save) The Notes in post 8 would still apply. Also notice in the guide that you need to setup your printer first except do not connect it to your computer untill after you run the CD. We are all members helping other members. lacky Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 hi, i know the problem, i ,need a virtual printer port for the usb. now! how do i get one of them. cheers lacky:eek:
RandyL Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 The software should have set the right port automatically. I have an AIO (All In One) network printer myself. My computer is not networked but it still assigned it to the virtual port. Look at the printer properties and the port settings. Here is a pic of mine. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/port.jpg We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. lacky Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 hi randy, that,s the problem, i,ve not got the port that,s says usb virtual port:mad:
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Let me get this right Lacky The printer is connected to the mains and the USB cable is connected to the printer with the large square type connector, you then install the software and connect the USB to the PC when it asks yes? Forgive me if this sounds like a really stupid question.
lacky Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 hi wolfe, yes it does, i,ve not got a usb virtual port to work it.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Just insert the USB in any socket and the pc should then say either, Found new hardware and/or Your printer is ready to use.
