lacky Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 hi wolfe, that won,t work, it won,t use any other port but usb virtual port
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Ok I just installed a Canon Pixma 460 on to a laptop running XP Home. I inserted the disk and let the files install, then this screen came up, forgive the scrappy quality. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z144/Wolfeymoles-Pics/IMG_0002.jpg It asked me to insert the USB cable and turn the printer on. All loaded ok so then I went into printer properties and chose Ports as in the second pic. As you can see the Virtual Printer port is ticked so either that software is not right or your doing something wrong here Lacky. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z144/Wolfeymoles-Pics/IMG_0001.jpg
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 What Operating System are you using Lacky, example; Windows 98, XP etc?
lacky Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 hi mate, sorry i,ve been offline for a few days, wolfe. i haven,t got the port that says virtual use port that,s the problem. i trying too find if i can add that to my system ie software or adapter i hope you understand this wolfe
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Lacky The Virtual Printer Port just means that your printer is attached via a USB connector. The software for the Epson printer should automatically configure the virtual printer port. This is why the printer should be seen once you have attached the USB.
lacky Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 hi wolfe, cheers for hanging in with me. no i phoned epson helpline and they said that it,s not connecting because my system doesn,t have a v/ usb port, its not on the install cd. cheers
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 What is the make and model of your PC Lacky? Keep with us mate and we will resolve this ok.
lacky Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 cheers wolfe, it,s a packard bell i xtreme running on xp
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Right well the I Xtreme range of PC's looks very nice and will obviously will have USB sockets. I don't know what your doing here Lacky but that software provided with the printer should install without problem. Have you or anyone else been into the bios to disable USB support?
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Ok go into Add/Remove in Control Panel and remove all instances of the Epson Printer. After that go into Search and type Epson in to the "what to look for", make sure you include Hidden Files and Folders and remove those too. Re-Boot. Install the Epson software once more making sure, that if both Windows and Mac are on the same disk, that you choose Windows. Get back to us if this does not work.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Go into Device Manager and tell us if there any yellow question marks against anything in there please.
RandyL Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Let's verify the uninstallation and installation process. How do I uninstall a printer driver on Windows 2000 or XP? How do I install a USB printer on Windows 2000 or XP? Epson also has online chat support. Have you tried that? We are all members helping other members. lacky Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 hi, i wish someone knew what a virtual usb port was, and how to put one on my system. that,s the port i need, not a driver.:confused::confused::confused::confused::o:o:o:o
RandyL Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 The problem is that the software and drivers should have created the port. The software should have allowed the printer to connect via USB in effect allowing the USB to serve as a printer port thus a virtual port. I know of no way to do this manually. It's done by the printer software. Have you tried a different USB port? Have you tried removing your USB Hosts Controllers then rebooting? We are all members helping other members. lacky Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 hi randy, the first one, i have tryed other usb,s second one how do i uninstall the host controllors and which one,s. cheers lacky
RandyL Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Right click My Computer. Click Properties. Click Device Manager. Expand the tree under Universial Serial Bus Controllers. Find the Controllers and remove by right clicking. Reboot. I don't have much faith this will help but it can't hurt anything. Do you have any other USB devices plugged in that work? Guest Wolfeymole Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Lacky We know how to set the printer up mate, you don't seem to be listening to the advice offered. Have you done what Randy recommended at all? This is not rocket science Lacky just a crap printer from Asda.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Listen to me ok When you install the printer driver software it configures any one of your USB sockets as a Printer Port, this is known as a Virtual Printer Port, because all computers these days and printers do not have a parallel printer connection. Do you understand this?
