Adding a Printer

hi wolfe, put your fangs away,yes any idolt should be able to install a printer it,s not hard, it set up no bother on my mates laptop in a v/usb port, so if the driver and the software does it for you, why does it not say a v/port in my list of ports, will phone epson back tomorrow and ask them again why it won,t set up. i will try to listen and understand:p Edited August 3, 2008 by lacky

Yes do that and tell them all that has been written in the thread about this problem.

If they fob you off then I'll contact them to find out what they are playing at.

hi wolfe, no joy spent all day on the phone and on epson e chat. packard bell say get onto epson and epson say get on to p/ bell there,s something wrong with my usb port it,s not letting me connect, as you say it,s only a ****e printer out of asda, so why is so hard to install after all they put a man on the moon lol.:mad::mad::mad:

Do you know how to get into the bios?

 

If you do then make sure that;

 

1: USB Keyboard is Enabled

 

2: Legacy USB Support is Enabled

 

Come back to us and say Yes or No

May seem like a daft question but how many USB devices do you have??

and what is the size of the PSU.

 

USB devices draw off a specific rail on the PSU and if you have a 'weedy' PSU and lots of devices it may just not be up to the job.

There seem to be many versions of the iextreme - none of which seem to have that lower a watt PSU.

I think that it may be time to start completely from scratch here in terms of deleting all the printer drivers and manually removing any files.

If you go into device manager along the top on the right there is an icon that shows a magnifying glass over a pc screen - this will scan the pc for added hardware - press that and see what it comes back with.

If it does not come back with anything then there is something wrong with your OS or the printer itself.

Let's work backwards for a moment.

 

1. In post 58 do as Dalo says. You said the printer installed on your mates PC so it could be a fault with your OS as he says.

 

2. Post 55 Daylo may have a point. Unplug ALL other USB devices first.

 

3. Post 54 Definitly do as Wolfeymole suggested first before you do anything else.

 

4. Post 53 Maybe Packard Bell is right. You have a bad USB hardware port. If you only have one set that could be a problem. Might need to replace it but you did say you had other devices that worked on it right?

 

5. Post 47 You never did reply as to whether you tried that. We need full and complete answers please.

 

6. Post 46 You seem to imply that you only have 2 USB ports. Is that correct? See number 5, 4, and 2 in this thread.

 

7. Post 45 Do you understand this part?

 

8. Post 39 Have you removed all instances of the failed software and drivers installation before you tried to reinstall? I provided the links for your printer but you never replied.

 

9. Post 38 You didn't reply to Wolfeymole on Device Manager. We really do need COMPLETE answers To EVERY question please.

 

10. Post 37 Your reply was once again incomplete. Did you go into Add/Remove and remove the software and programs? Did you search for the files in the prescribed manner? Did you reboot next? Or did you just try to reinstall again?

 

11. Post 33 What is the exact model and number?

 

12. Post 3 seems to imply that you ran the downloaded drivers first then tried the CD. In post 17 Wolfey asked which one you downloaded. Again your response was generic and unclear.

 

EXACTLY what did Epson and Packard Bell say? The details will help.

 

It seems to me you may have made a mess of this from the start and not followed ALL of the instructions completely on removing previous installations. It really is hard to tell though since your answers are incomplete. This also means answers to possible other issues.

 

You may want to consider doing a System Restore to before you made your FIRST attempt at installing this printer. Then CAREFULLY follow the instructions you have recieved from everyone everywhere.

hi randy, sorry man, yes i think there,s somewrong in the usb ports as i said all a long. i,ve uninstalled and restalled too many times for my liking.as dave said and i think my self my pc might not be up to it.

Ok we are getting nowhere fast on this lacky, we have offered you all possibilities to help you and we are getting nowhere.

 

Your best option is to get someone in to install the printer for you ok.

10. Did what? Did you use add/remove programs to remove the software? Did you search for files and folders for leftovers? Did you unhide hidden files and folders first? Or did you just reinstall again?

11. Packard Bell IXTREME 6052 support page. In the download section under chipset there is a USB Patch. Have you tried that?

12. Tried to install from the CD first. I assume you also tried to install the downloaded drivers? If so is this the one you downloaded? Epson Stylus DX4400 : Drivers & Software

 

Can you give us any more details on what Epson or Packard Bell suggested? Did they have you try anything at all?

 

Please pay particular attention to the USB Patch I mentioned in 11.

 

As you can see lacky you have not tried all the suggestions made. In addition your answers have been unclear and incomplete. Even when I spelled it out what we needed to know we are only a little better off. Please be specific with your answers. Note that I tried to clear up your answers for you in a format that can be readily used.
