maynardvdm Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 One last thing and i address this to anyone. I browsed with interest, the post about the latest maleware and how you guys are finding it more difficult to clean up infected computers during the last could of months. Am i as safe as i can be with ESET NOD32 and should i consider purchasing Superantispyware as an extra tool or would they conflict with each other. I am paranoid about the security of my P.C content (credit card details etc etc) so i need to have the best i can afford to protect my system. Your comments please gentlemen. You can have SuperAntiSpyware (Free Version) as a backup scanner, but you should not have 2 real time Anti-virus running together. Another scanner i can recommend is MalwareBytes Antimalware (only as a backup scanner). Just keep NOD32 updated and you should be pretty safe. You can also have a program like Winpatrol (Click the link in my sig) which is a very usefull program, check out their website. Quote We are all members helping other members. Dalo Harkin Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 You are in good stead with Nod32 - as you have Windows XP Home I sound like an MS fan boy but if you have Vista I would consider buying MS live OneCare - It really is amazing and you can get OEM versions for sub £20. I dont like MS as much as the next PC person but it really is worth considering. pc plodder Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 Thanks for the info guys. maynardvdm Went to winpatrol site as you advise, must say it looked a tidy bit of kit, i'll have a good read a bit later as i'm a bit pushed for time at the moment but i'll download it for sure. I usually don't download software unless someone who is very experienced recommends it. When i was newish to computing i downloaded ever bit of security stuff that was out there. I had so much on my system that it was (in hind sight) conflicting and probably the nasties could walk right in!! You see that's the trouble with us novices. We read about hackers, virus, maleware and all and we try and guard against it. My view was akin to keeping your front door safe, the more locks and bolts you had, the harder it was for someone to get in and steal from you. Now it seems that less is more if it's the right kit. Anyway both, it's nice to know that ESET will keep me as safe as is possible so i will update to the full version. Dalo...sounds like a good deal from MS, pity i have XP Home Edition. I won't be updating for a while though, but when i eventually do i'll get that for sure. Thanks again gents for your interest and help/advise Steve Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 If your just running Eset's Anti Virus Steve I'd seriously consider upgrading to their Security Suite. It has AV, Firewall, Anti-Spam and Anti-Spyware Firewall, Antivirus, Antispam: ESET Smart Security Has It All I have the paid version for a year and it's the dogs plums, ie; very good. Quote
pc plodder Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 Hi wolfeymole Yep, have the same on this machine abiet the 30 day trial version which i am going to purchase the 1 year license to start with. The one thing that stands out to me (apart from the recommendations that it's a good bit of kit all round) is the firewall. I have it set to auto mode. Not knowing what is safe to connect to the internet i find this a huge help. No pop ups and asking that this, that and the other wants to access the net leaves me to do what i want, surf, knowing that it's all being taken care of. Thanks for your interest Steve Quote
