registry edit reverts to default

Recommended Posts

windows xp home edition

I am trying to change the default location of the outlook express

address book.

I make the change to the registry using regedit, then close regedit

It dosnt matter if I reopen regedit, or reboot then reopen regedit, the

registry setting has reverted to its original default.

any ideas ??

Changing this setting by a registry hack is inappropriate -

OE has its own menu item to do this. Best to ask the experts

in an OE newsgroup!

OE has a menu item to change the default location of the DATABASE email

files, NOT the address book.

A google search on how to change the default location of the ADDRESS

BOOK turns up the registry edit.

let me rephrase my question..

I make a registry change using regedit, I close regedit and reboot...

using regedit, I check the registry change I have just made..and find it

is still at the default setting, the change I had made was not written

The behaviour you describe would occur if some other agent

changes the registry back to its original value. You can try this

confirm my suspicon:

1. Boot into Safe Mode.

2. Make the registry change, then close the registry editor.

3. Do not activate any other programs.

4. Open regedit again and check your change.

5. Reboot, then check your change once more.
