XP connect to network drives at logon

Recommended Posts

I have XP w/SP2. I had several network drives mapped, and XP would connect

to them when I logged in. All of a sudden, Windows won't connect reliably

when I log in.

Sometimes I get a message to the effect that not all network drives could be

connected. Anothe time, I'll get no message at all but some or all of my

mapped drives say disconnected network drive. Still other times I can open

My Computer and it'll show all network drives connected.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Dave

Do *not* use persistent connections and start using a script to map the

drives at logon.

However, I'd like to understand if this is an XP bug and why it does this.

My IT guys say it is an acknowledged bug with no fix suggested which works.

Also, I can boot up at any given time and the drives will be connected. I

can restart my computer and the next time the drives will all show as

disconnected drives. I have rebooted a third time and I've gotten a message

that not all drives could be connected, and when I look into My Computer,

I'll see that a couple of the drives are connected, and a couple aren't.

This seems inconsistent to me, almost like voodoo. Could the cause be the

way my IT guys have set up the network? I mean, up until a week or so ago,

everything worked fine. IT tells me other people at my company are

experiencing similar symptoms.

Thanks,

Dave

Have your IT guy give you a *link* to this acknowledged bug then. If it is

acknowledged - then it is documented that it is acknowledged. I would

*love* to see this bug... Knowledge is what is needed around here. ;-)

It could very well be a change in their setup. It could be something that

got installed on your system or everyone elses system. An update, etc.
