Hi

I have recently had to reinstall MS Office 2007 due to a registry error I was receiving in PowerPoint. Since reloading the whole office suite back onto my laptop windows updates have appeared for the different office programs. I have checked Add & Remove programs and none appear but each time I download them & click install the following messages appear.

Initializing installation... done!

Installing Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808) (update 1 of 9)... failed!

Installing Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB952142) (update 2 of 9)... failed!

Installing Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB953463) (update 3 of 9)... failed!

Installing Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 (KB950114) (update 4 of 9)... failed!

Installing Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB950113) (update 5 of 9)... failed!

Installing Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB946983) (update 6 of 9)... done!

Installing Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB946974) (update 7 of 9)... failed!

Installing Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB947801) (update 8 of 9)... failed!

I don’t know if the registry has been corrupt. I am using XP Pro and upgraded to Service Pack 3. All in all the Office programs work fine without any problems. It’s just the windows updates keep appearing and fail to install. I have tried to hide & ignore these updates but they keep reappearing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Russ

Hi RandyL

Thanks for the speedy response! I have had a look at the article you suggested and neither of the folders mentioned could be found on my laptop. I ran the run command

Click Start, Run.

Type: "regsvr32 /u C:\WINNT\System32\IUCTL.dll" (Without Quotes. You should get an unregistered successfully message.)

But received the following message...

LoadLibrary("C:\WINNT\System32\IUCTL.dll")failed - The specified module could not be found.

There must be something inherently wrong with Office 2007. I have a friend who hasn't been able to install it on his Vista machine. MS needs to do better.

uninstall Office via add/remove and then

go into C/program files and delete MANUALLY any MS OFFICE folders -

then try and reinstall it

MS ALWAYS leaves redundant folders in the Program files!

Hi Goku

I haven't tried installing service pack 3 for office. Didn't know there was one lol!

I will update if I manage to resolve my problem.

Cheers guys!

****UPDATE****

I have since downloaded & installed MS Office XP Service Pack 3 as suggested by Goku. Unfortunately upon installing the program the following message appeared...

MS Office XP Service Pack 3

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The expected version of the product was not found on your system.

I have tried clearing office 2007 using windows add/remove prog utility. Upon reinstalling office 2007 using the original CD it fails & will not install. I had to delete some registry files & folders from the C:\Programs folder (similar to the message Dalo left). Once I did this & restarted office installed fine but a hybrid version appeared. Since this the office 2007 windows updates will not install. When I go to the MS update site the updates are shown but the size is 0.00KB. I have made a right mess!!

Hi Russ;

When looking for those two folders remember that it said one was hidden. Maybe the other is too. Enable Hidden Files And Folders to show.

Hey RandyL

I have double checked to make sure that "Show Hidden Files & Folders" is ticked in the Folder Options menu.

I did find something on a MS support page. It mentioned to disable Automatic updates then go to the following folder via >C > Windows > Software Distribution & to delete every file in the Download & Cache folders. Once the files have been deleted turn Automatic updates back on and reboot the machine. I then revisited the MS updates site and tried to download the office 2007 updates again (one is a service pack for microsoft office 2003 (service pack 3)). They downloaded fine but upon installing them each one said downloading then failed.

With regards to another post. I am using Office 2007 on XP Pro (SP3) and I have McAfee Security Centre installed.

Try disabling McAfee when you run the updates. And when you install office (it does say upon installation to disable AV and Firewalls)

Hi Dalo

I have disabled McAfee as you mentioned and attempted to reinstall the updates. Unfortunately the following updates (below) still failed upon installation even though there were no problems downloading them.

Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB947801)

Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB946974)

Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691)

Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 (KB950114)

Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB950113)

Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808)

Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB952142)

Its very weird why the updates won't install. I've checked Add & Remove Programs to make sure if any of them have already been installed before. None of them appear when I check show windows updates.

1. Please visit following website to download a tool, which can check and

repair Office Windows Installer sub keys.

http://www.sbor.com/Docs/OUCPR.exe

2. Please unzip the file to the Desktop. We will receive a file named

OUCPR.exe

3. Double click the file OUCPR.exe.

4. If there are any problematic products found, click Unregister to repair.

If this does not fix the problem, then move onto the next step.

Step 2: Make sure that Windows Installer service is set to Enabled

=========

1. Click Start, click Run, type "services.msc" (without the quotation

marks), and then click "OK".

2. In the list of services, double-click "Windows Installer".

3. View the option that appears in the "Startup type" list.

4. If the start type is set to "DISABLED", modify the startup type to a

setting of "Manual". To do this, right-click "DISABLED" list, click

Properties, General tab. And then select "Manual" in the "Startup type" list,

and then click "OK".

How is the result? If the error message is still received, please go to

Step 3.

Step 3: Repair the Windows Installer

=========

1. Quit all programs that are running in the background.

2. Press Start and choose Run.

2. Type in "cmd" (without quotation marks) and press OK.

3. In the command line, type in the following command and press Enter:

MSIexec /unregister

4. Then, type in the following command and press Enter:

MSIexec /regserver

After finishing the above steps, please check the result again. If the

issue persists, please click Start, click Control Panel, and click Add/Remove

Programs to check if Windows Installer 3.1 has been installed. If it has,

please highlight and remove it. After that, please reinstall Windows

Installer 3.1 from the following link.

Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

5. Restart your computer and then test the issue again.

Found link to sbor office systems website. Downloaded oucpr.exe which came as in a zip folder. Extracted it to desktop and went to double click the file. It won't open. Tried to rename the extension to .exe but this didnt resolve the issue.

The Microsoft Office Diagnostics splash screen will open. Click Continue.

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/WindowsLiveWriter/DetectandRepairOffice2007Applications_10F07/office%20diagnostics_2.png

Next you are presented with the Start Diagnostics Screen showing you what is going to be checked and the status of each diagnostic. When you are ready click Run Diagnostics.

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/WindowsLiveWriter/DetectandRepairOffice2007Applications_10F07/office%20diagnostics_3.png

While the Diagnostics run you will see the status bars as each tests completes. When it's complete hit Continue.

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/WindowsLiveWriter/DetectandRepairOffice2007Applications_10F07/office%20diagnostics_5.png

You will get a limited detail of what was fixed. In this example all 5 diagnostic tests ran and one problem was identified and fixed. If you ok with that just close out and you are done. If you want to get additional information click on "Detailed results".

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/WindowsLiveWriter/DetectandRepairOffice2007Applications_10F07/office%20diagnostics_6.png

When you look close at the detailed information in this example you can see there was a problem with the installation and this tool automatically fixed it.

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/WindowsLiveWriter/DetectandRepairOffice2007Applications_10F07/office%20diagnostics_7.png

Unfortunately for an administrator or power user this utility "as is" does not display specific results (you need to do more digging ). However when you are in a hurry and need your applications up and running to finish your work Microsoft Office Diagnostics works great!

An excellent post Dave if I may say so mate.

Thanks dalo. Tried office diagnostics and no errors were found. Everything was fine. This is problem baffles me. Is it worth starting a fresh? Removing office 2007 (inc. all the add-ons) and reinstalling the program, then try the installing the updates. I don't really want to do this, only if it is a last resort.

I removed MS Office 2007 completely from my laptop and then reinstalled it from the disk. It installed fine without any problems but then my automatic updates popped up saying I had 9 updates to install. Again the same problem occurred, all 9 updates (all office 2007 related) downloaded but when it began to install them onto my machine every updated had (failed....) after it. I’m beginning to think whether it could be XP Service Pack 3 which I installed after office 2007 which could be causing the problem. I have made sure that I disabled McAfee Security Centre just in case it fancied blocking or interrupting any Windows updates. It’s very bizarre why the updates are not installing.:(
