Russ - there is something seriously wrong with either your:-

1 - PC

2 - your version of OFFICE 2007

We have covered lots of posts and lots of fixes, but we could be here for the rest of our lives trying to find every fix and every setting.

You have uninstalled Office and deleted all the REMAINING office files from the C drive - therefore when you install office again it will be at default settings and SHOULD work.

If all you are having problems with is the updates - and all other MS updates work then you can only really:-

use OFFICE as it is or wait until your PC needs reformatting (but again there is no way to tell if this would cure the problem)

I don't want to sound negative but we are getting nowhere fast!

and we must ask ourselves when enough is enough.

Hi russ;

Dave is right in that we have covered every possibility. I would suggest that you contact the vendor you bought your computer and Office from. I suspect that the hybrid installation is due to them.

OEM suppliers have a disk with multiple versions of Office that they can use to install one version. Then you or the vendor purchase the license for that one version.

If they sold you a copy of that disk or did not supply you with the licence then I would suspect foul play or miscommunication with them. As noted trial versions of Office are common but for a limited time.

It seems to me that this is something you really need to take up with them. Getting updates for an unlicensed Microsoft product seems to be the issue.

For these reasons I'm going to close the thread for now. Feel free to ask about anything else please.
