Guest Capt K Ripendran Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I am able to play YouTube video/audio in Windows XP SP2 but NOT in Windows 98 SE! Is it NOT designed such as Skype which requires a minimum of Windows 2000? Is there any patch that requires to be downloaded and installed? Capt K Ripendran

To my knowledge, I installed Opera and Flash player long ago and they and youtube just worked. The only trick I know of is sometimes it takes multiple clicks to get it arted. I recall some statements on the youtube site that you needed WMP 10. With 98 I have only WMP 9 but it seems to work.

Guest Dan Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Re: Windows 98 wont play youtube videos I just wanted to mention briefly that Windows Media Player 9 is the last and latest Windows Media Player that supports 98SE. Windows Media Player 10 supports XP but not 98SE. If so can you play videos on other sites, without them hesitating every once in a while. I couldn`t play videos well at all until I went to cable. James
Guest Capt K Ripendran Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Windows 98 wont play youtube videos I already have WMP 9.0 and now I have installed Adobe Flash Player 9.0 and even after that the same problem crops up. I have a Broadband connection at speeds upto 2Mbps. It is NOT so much that I want to play videos as to listening to music of my choice! Does some adjustment needs to be done in Multimedia? There is a break in the audio every 5-10 seconds! If you have an old computer, you may not have enough horsepower to decode a flash stream and play it at the same time. Flash decoding seems to be cpu intensive, as is playing As a work around, when using a slow comptuer, I click pause in the flash player and let it download and then click play to play the downloaded file.
Guest 98se-user@nomail.com Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Windows 98 wont play youtube videos Heck, I can play YouTube videos using IE 5.5. Just make sure you have Flash player installed. I can also use one of the latest vers of Firefox. Now as for the content of garbage on YouTube, no comment !!!! ---------------- On Wed, 15 Aug 2007 03:12:56 -0700, Miles Copeland <miles@nospam.com> wrote: >"Capt K Ripendran" <ripendran@dataone.in> wrote in >news:On5MpCy3HHA.600@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl: > >> I am able to play YouTube video/audio in Windows XP SP2 but >> NOT in Windows 98 SE! >> Is it NOT designed such as Skype which requires a minimum >> of Windows 2000? Guest 98se-user@nomail.com Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Windows 98 wont play youtube videos I play YouTube videos on dialup. I just shut off the sound and do something else while they load, then hit REPLAY. It often takes and hour for them to download.
