Guest Elaine Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I tried to install some software on Windows XP Home Edition and it said to use "Admin". Can anyone tell me how to do this? -- Elaine

Can anyone tell me how to do this? Can you be more specific with the software you are trying to install? The only way to be logged into Windows XP Home with the "true" administrator account is to be in safe mode - but i would doubt the legitimacy of any software that would require that. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Guest Bob I Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Re: How do I install software You sure it wasn't "with Admin privileges" or rights? That is a frequent requirement to successfully install most software. Elaine wrote: > I tried to install some software on Windows XP Home Edition and it said to > use "Admin". Guest Bob I Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Re: How do I install software You most likely are logging in with Admin rights, unless you are using the guest account. Just go ahead and install. Elaine wrote: > Can you tell me how to get "with Admin privileges" or rights? This is just > my home computer.....

What is it called? What camera is it for? Is it even 'necessary'? What is the exact message you get when trying to install it? Do the following: Start button --> RUN --> type in: cmd /k net localgroup administrators --> click OK. Is your name listed in there? Also... Start button --> RUN --> type in: winver --> click OK. What version of Windows (Top picture should tell you Home Edition or something like that) and patch level (line that starts with Version 5.1 (...)) are you running? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

If it's an HP camera, the software is god-awful. Don't install the software. The camera will work fine without it.
Guest Elaine Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: How do I install software I thought this was a forum to help those who don't understand and need assistance. Guest Bob I Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: How do I install software Elaine, This isn't a forum, it is a publicly accessible newsgroup and as such anyone and everyone can post whatever they wish. You can even post through google groups if you wish. Not unlike posting a comment on the wall at the bus stop shelter. Don't take it personally. Indeed it is. > By your comment "Uncle Grumpy" it appears I am out of my league > here. I won't be back.... This a newsgroup, and it's a public place, where anyone can post, unfortunately even those as rude as Uncle Grumpy." No, you're not out of your league here, and please don't think that we are all the same as Uncle Grumpy. The world is like that; although most people are polite and kind, you find occasional people like Uncle Grumpy, who aren't here to be helpful but to get their jollies by insulting others. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
