Guest Anthony Smith Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Good Afternoon, I just recently created a new user on this XP machine. It has/had other existing user accounts. Well for some reason search isn't work. This user is set up as an administrator. What happens when I click Start Menu | Search It appears to open up Windows explorer and all I see is the little Dog wagging his tail in the Search Companion dialog box. But nothing else is displayed in that box. I don't have any options to search for any files. Not sure what is happening. If I log off this user and log on with a different user, Search works fine. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks! Sincerely, Anthony Smith In God We Trust!

Guest Ramesh, MS-MVP Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Search feature isn't working in WinXP SP2 Click Start, Run and type: regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 vbscript.dll regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll Reinstalling the Search companion 1. Login as administrator 2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK. 3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file. 4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install. This reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses. When you're prompted for the system files, insert your Windows XP CD, or point to Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder (if you've applied SP1 or SP2 separately) where the system files are located. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "Anthony Smith" <anthony@peconet.com> wrote in message news:%23Aeu9633HHA.1484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl...
