Hi,

I actually asked this before a couple of months back, but it seemed to stop after I stopped plugging in my external hardrive in, but the problem has come back..

I've been on to where I got my computer from who have really been no help and its out of guarantee now. I have a hard time explaining the problem clearly and I'm just totally stumped and annoyed!

Basically what will happen is every 5 seconds the mouse cursor will stick for a second and jerk, then be fine for 5 seconds.. if im listening to music or playing a video file, then there will be a hiccup in place of say the cursor moving, so the video file will stick or the sound will jump..

I know it's not a problem with the memory as I've replaced that and still no change and I know it's not just aproblem with the mouse because it does it with the sound and video and so vice verse.

I've checked the processes and performance as someone said it might show a spike when it occurs, but no, nothing I can see here either.

Sometimes I'll turn the machine on and itll be fine, if I plug something in (external, usb stick or cd) then it'll start again but lately it's doing it everytime I turn the machine on..

Yep, I could take it to a repair place, but that's hassle and I'd personally like to know what it is that is happening so maybe I can fix it myself.

Anyone.. please help?!!?

Before I break something hehe

Sorry to say it but - glitches as you have described are down to the HDD dying.

If there is 'clicking' then thats the HDD.

One of my HDD's stick every now and then and has been doing so for well over 1 year, I am 99% sure thats all it can be -

you have too many things stuttering - mouse movement - video and audio - unless the CPU is not working properly

Keep tapping F8 as soon as you turn on your computer. That will bring up a boot menu. Use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode", then press enter. See if the problem persists in that mode.
