Guest Ogg Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 I've removed Norton 2003, but every few days, Norton continues to fetch updates! I tried viewing the culprit program responsible via Task Manager. The only process that coincides with the activity is something named "update.exe". But a search for that shows up several copies of that program in different subdirectories, and none of them have a clear label to the obvious "Norton" or "Symantec". The subdirs are just numbers. Is anyone here familiar with this problem and if so, how do I get Norton to stop?

Try googling for it. Hope this helps. John.

Guest Ogg Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Re: norton removed, but still fetches updates! LiveUpdate is not there. It was removed prior to this. "Merlin" <Merlin@noway.com> wrote .. > Look for "Live Update" in Add/Remove Programs list in the control panel > and remove it.
Guest Ogg Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Re: norton removed, but still fetches updates! I had already used that. Norton is the barnacle of the software world. You'll have to use the sooper-sekret Norton/Symantec removal tool (available at the Symantec website). Then you'll need to scour the registry for any spoors left behind. All that should get you close.

I just learned that the updates process is actually Windows Updates. I thought it was disabled. Someone else had unknowlegeably enable the downloads. This was truly bizzare because I *know* that I run the Norton Removal Tool, and deleted all references to Norton and Symantec in the registry. Sorry to ALL for the confusion. Appreciated the help.
