I have just bought a HD camcorder. I will be copying the footage to the PC and will then burn to DVD. My current DVD burner is about 3 years old.

The footage will be HD and I will want to transfer the output from the PC to a Blue ray disk so that I can watch this on a HD TV through a blue ray player.

Question is do I need a special DVD writer (hardware/software)to be able to write to a blue ray disk. I have read about red and blue lasers for DBD and Blue ray so I suspect that I need a new writer

Yes you do need a Blue Ray Burner.

They are not cheap though, you are looking £80+ for one

The disks themselves are also very expensive:-

25GB disks are between £7 - £10

50GB disks are between £20 - £30
