Windows updates and DVD

I sometimes play a DVD which has the option to click on chapters or sections.

Recently it started crashing and turning itself off when it got to a certain

point in loading the dvd. 2 or 3 times I restored it to a previous point

and it would work ok but I think it is after it has installed updates - don't

know which one - that it starts to crash again. The restore point that I can

now take it back to to know it will work is a restore point of a previous

date which I can't remember. Also could it be the new media player as I

notice that some people are havng problems with that. I hope someone can help

Try uninstalling KB936782 from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel

to see if that's the update causing the issue. Make sure the

"Show updates " box is checked at the top.

IF KB936782 is the culprit:

I tried it but it doesn't make any difference, it still shuts down just

before it should go on to the screen where you choose the chapter. Do I now

need to re-install KB936782 or is it not important. Thanks.

Re: Windows updates and DVD

Yes, reinstall KB936872 as it's a Critical Security update.

Is the issue with all DVDs or just one ?

You may want to uninstall and then reinstall the DVD software if that's

convenient, Jill.

Re: Windows updates and DVD

It happens with 2 different DVDs which give an introduction and then go on to

allow you to choose which section you go to next (yoga and pilates etc.) That

is the point at which it shuts down. Ordinary DVDs don't have a problem. If

I restore back to somewhere in July it is OK but after it downloads all the

microsoft automatic updates it cuts out again. Thank you for your interest.

Re: Windows updates and DVD

Are you speaking for Microsoft?

Is there a problem with the security updates?

Since I have been installing them, or better yet, since they have been

installing theirself, I have had nothing but problems with opening partitions

that house MPG's MPEGS, DVD's. Exployer stops working. DVD's don't play. I

have reverted back to Windows XP on my dual boot, and have had enought of

VISTA for now. If many are having this problem, and it looks like they are,

an update should be forthcoming to fix the udpdates.
