Ive just got an external hardrive and i have moved all my music on to it. This means of course that in the windows media player library where i had all my music stored, the music files have a different pathway and so do not play.

How would i get windows media player to just play music now that it has moved to another hardrive without deleting everything in my library and then adding it again from the new location which would take ages!? Any help would be great, apologies for the bad explanation. OS is XP and windows media player version is 10.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The database file located deep in your user directory keeps a copy of the path for each file. Your only choice is to delete this file or empty the library from with Windows Media Player and add all your tracks again.

On a side note, you may wish to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11. Or, if you want a better music management application that doesn't have such restrictions and closed formats, try Songbird or musikCube.
