Hello everyone

I have a computer that registry file is corrupt and we are not able to

boot from it (windows xp home).

What I have done is taken the hard disk out of the computer, wired it

into a usb etnernal hard-drive, and am now running it from another

computer in windows xp

now I am trying to open the registry files from hardrive2:\WINDOWS

\system32\config.

First of all what is the name of the registry file

Second How can I open this file in a registry application and change

its values

Maybe there is some software some computer technicians here can

recommend or use that can do this

If you don't know any software then dont worry replying to this

thread, I have tried recovery console and no avail

Thanks for your time

You can't edit the registry from the Recovery Console. With the disk

mounted to another XP installation you can use the "Load Hive" feature

in Regedit. See here for easy to follow instructions:

http://www.rwin.ch/xp-live/regedit.htm Which file to open depends on

what exactly you want to edit, open the files *without* extensions.
