TS Bandwidth requirements

Hi,

I'm trying to obtain bandwidth recommendations for Windows Terminal Server

2003. An office has 256Kb of bandwidth. We are using an application,

probably at 1024 x 768 @256 colours and I am trying to judge how many users

that would normally support for concurrent connections. This isn't the only

calculation I need to make so I'm looking for guidlines or white paper rather

than a specific answer.

Thanks in advance

this would be on microsoft term server website (specs).

the amount of ram depends on the app., but I've noticed if you assume

200mb per user - this is a safe amount. It's not too small and usually

covers several apps running at same time per user. A nice rule to go by

is 4gb of ram for 20 users.

bandwidth also depends on stability and the app. 256k isn't very much!

For now many users is this going to be? Is the 256k confirmed for

upload and download? Your users will be experiencing what you would

consider your upload speed. If you have to deploy this app to more than

approx 10 users, 256k won't cut it. Even for 10 (concurrent) it's going

to be slow.

I'd suggest looking at a colocation or citrix (or both).

citrix runs great even over dialup! I've done it several times when I'm

out of the country. Term. server doesn't perform as well as citrix on

low bandwidth situations. I've also confirmed this when out of the country.

Hope this helps,

Oskar
