Guest Curt Christianson Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just an FYI. This link came courtesy of Fred Langas newsletter, and you can quickly check your machine for most up-to-date- patches, not just for Windows itself, but for many popular add-ons like WMP, Java, QT, etc. This is from Secunia Software, and can be found at: http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ No installation required. Minimum requirements to run this: * Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003 * Sun Java JRE 1.5.0_12 * Internet Explorer 6.x, Opera 9.x, or Firefox 2.x * Latest version of Microsoft Windows Update -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm
Guest Gerry Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Secunia Software Inspector Curt It's a beta product. I am not sure why, if it relies on the Windows Update log, it can find uninstalled updates, which a routine running of the Custom option in Microsoft Update, would not reveal? -- Regards. Guest Curt Christianson Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Secunia Software Inspector Hi Gerry, The "Personal Software Inspector" *is* a beta product, but the one I'm referring to is on the same page, but the left-hand button, which is just known as their "Online Software Inspector". It checks more than just MS updates. It also checks to see if you have outdated or un-patched Quicktime, Java, Flash, etc., that WU would not be checking. I just thought it was a handy little tool for those who may be interested, and it took about 11 minutes for it to scan my machine. -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm "Gerry" <gerry@nospam.com> wrote in message news:uakcehP4HHA.5796@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... | Curt | | It's a beta product. Guest Doug W. Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Secunia Software Inspector It is a great program which I run periodically. Nice to know what versions of prgms are unstable or prone to attacks. A great service from a reputable company. - Cheers - Doug W. - "Curt Christianson" <curtchristnsn@NOSPAM.Yahoo.com> wrote in message news:O$quzJQ4HHA.5796@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Hi Gerry, > > The "Personal Software Inspector" *is* a beta product, but the > one I'm > referring to is on the same page, but the left-hand button, > which is just > known as their "Online Software Inspector". > > It checks more than just MS updates.
