Guest David B. Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Rename File Type Is it an avi? Where did it come from? You can't just change a file extension 9 times out of 10 and expect the file to be useable. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm _________________________________________________________________________________ "Jack Tyler" <Fl_Gulfer@GTCom.net> wrote in message news:Lt2dndL1Wvexa1jbnZ2dnUVZ_oCvnZ2d@neonova.net... Guest Jack Tyler Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Rename File Type I figured it out, Thanks anyway. First of all make sure you *can* modify file extensions : - open Windows' Start menu, select Run.... Type in "explorer" (without the quotes) - in the 'Tools' menu, select folder options - then click on View - Deselect the option "hide file extensions for known file types" From now on, to rename files, right-click the file to rename, select rename, then give the file a new name and extension, then hit enter. Guest Jim Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Rename File Type Of course that is how you change a file extension. However, you should not do this unless you know that the file is in fact that particular format. For example, I could easily change the extension of a file from "txt" to "jpg", but that will not make the file into a jpeg.
