How to customize Logon screen

WinXP Pro computer which is joined to a Domain Controller, which means

we have the standard Logon window, not the "Welcome" one with icons

I would like to be able to customize the Logon box itself so that it has

a disclaimer ("use for authorized purposes and authorized users...") in

the Logon window itself.

Note that this is different than using the reghack to put items in the

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/Currentversion/WinLogon/

LegalNoticeCaption

LegalNoticeText

which puts up a separate window (which users have to hit "ok" to get

away from)

Alternatively, if modifying the Logon box itself is too hard, using a

customized background - on the Logon window ONLY (not after the user

logs on) - would be acceptable.

Hello Chris,

If this is the "Classic" login window ...

Go to the same key you referenced above and create a new String named

LogonPrompt

Modify the Value and type in what you want to show.

Yes, it is.

That was helpful, but I ran into the limit of how many characters I

could put into that field. Plus it would have been nice if I could

format the test (bigger font, bold, etc).

I did find a way to do it, albeit kind of a hack.

First, I created TextBox in MS Word with the text I wanted (formatted).

I pasted that textbox into Photoshop and saved the image as a .bmp to

C:\Windows (with the other background images).

I edited HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper and put in

the Fullpathname and filename of the .bmp image I had created.

Note: I had to make my .bmp 1280x1024 (the screen resolution size) so I

cold place the TextBox where I wanted it on the screen. Otherwise, it

would just center it (under the logon window).

Good one, Chris,

I've noted that down.

Thanks!
