Thank you in advance.

Is your computer still under manufacturer's warranty? If it is, you may as well contact them. Otherwise, you will need to find out the make and model of your computer; this will allow us to determine the model and socket of CPU you have.

Fans for CPUs generally cost between £5 and £15. It sounds like yours is failing or has come loose somehow. Replacing it should do the trick.

No sadly its not under warrenty any more :) this is why it is broke lol.

It is a Pakard bell ixtreme gold 2107.

Also now my monitor is making a noise and depending on what is displayed (light or dark colours) changes the pitch of the sound. I hope that explains it because it sounds wierd. Im guess ing that that is also on its way outas if i turn the monitor off and leave it for awhile its ok after that.

The monitor came with the machine and i cant find a model number.

Thanks for your reply though.

I've just thought, the sudden noise may be caused by a cable obstructing or touching the fan's blades. This is dangerous for two reasons: the blades may shred or cut the cable or the fan may stop completely. Since you're out of the warranty period, the first step is to unplug your machine, ground yourself and open up the case. Look inside to find where the processor is located, it will have a fan and heatsink mounted on top of it. See whether you can see any obstructions to the fan or anything else obvious that would cause such noise.

You may be able to carefully switch the machine on with simply the power cable in the back of the unit with it sitting horizontally in front of you. You'll be able to quick hear and subsequently see where and what is causing the noise. If it is the fan, it simply needs replacing. I've looked on the Packard Bell website, your computer has an Intel Pentium D 803 processor, which sits in a socket called "LGA775". The reason this is relevant is because processor HSFs (heatsink and fan , the thing that sits on top of the processor) only work with a particular socket.

If you can, find a local computer shop and buy the fan from them. Just ask for a "socket 775 fan". At most, it should cost £10.

As for the monitor, check at the very back on the monitor, there is almost always a sticker. Quite often monitors have a three-year warranty provided by the actual manufacturer. As in, you may have some warranty left on it.

It is very odd that your computer is suddenly failing after it has finished its warranty period, it sounds a bit like Packard Bell have intended it to do so.
