Dear All,

How can I send a fax with Windows Fax Console

without a modem but by using my high speed LAN?

LAN is used to send and receive many Gigabytes of data

there must be a way to send a simple black and white fax with it.

Thanking you in advance for any info.

Carlos.

No can do. You need to buy a fax modem to send and receive faxes with a

computer. They aren't very expensive, btw.

You can't fax directly from a computer without a dialup modem. That's

the way faxing works, over analog phone lines. There are various

Internet faxing services that will send a fax for you - Google for them.

Otherwise you can always buy a standalone fax machine or an all-in-one

printer/scanner/fax and connect those devices to a telephone line.

You can't.

Nope. Faxes have to be sent over the dialup telephone network, and you

have to dial the number of the fax machine you are sending to.

The only other choice you have is using a web-based service that lets

you upload a document to them, and then they fax it to the number you

specify.

Such services are usually fee-based, I believe; you should be able to

find them with Google, but there isn't normally any advantage of using

them over faxing yourself with either a fax modem or a stand-alone fax

machine.

To send:

If YOU want to send faxes, YOU will need an analog telephone line and

a fax-capable modem.

If you want someone ELSE to send your faxes, there are paid fax

services to which you can e-mail the fax and have THEM send using

their analog phone lines and modems. The tpc.int service to send faxes

is free but ran by volunteers which results in slow sending (i.e.,

delays) and unreliable service, and they may not have a local

telephone number in your area so you incur long-distance charges.

To receive:

If YOU want to receive faxes, YOU will need an analog telephone line

and a fax-capable modem. You will also need to continuosly run the

fax software so it can answer phone calls.

If you want someone ELSE to receive your faxes and send them via

e-mail to you, you can use a free or paid fax service for that (eFax

is free to receive with some quota limits but costs to send).
