Found this:-

it turned out that mail.services.live.com switched to using

application/pkix-crl content-type for message retrieval which was not allowed, on my firewall. Adding this content-type resolved the issue.

Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Davy. :)

Try this. Close Windows Live Messenger. Go to Hotmail on the web, and clean out all the folders. If you want to save any messages, create a new folder and move those messages to the new folder. Empty the thrash also. Remember that when you restart Windows Live Messenger, it will try to synchronize with the new folder status on the web, so be sure you have moved any important email to a storage folder.

See if you still get the error message or not. Good Luck. :)

You might also want to delete all your cookies and temp files too at the same time.

Keep in mind though that Daylo may be right in that your firewall may be blocking access to the mail server.
