My puter will only let me start up in safe mode, when i try to log on normally as soon as i put in my password it switches itself off and restarts itself and if i just leave it at the password screen it does the same, just keeps restarting constantly xx Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Could be a number of things:- PC is overheating - have you cleaned the inside of the case recently/ever? have you changed anything recently - installed new hardware/software? Goku Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Dawn. :) Is this problem account specific? Try booting into Safe Mode and create a new account with Administrator privileges. Now, try to boot in normal mode and see if the problem still persists or not. How to create and configure user accounts in Windows XP Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
Dawn73 Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 can only start up in safe mode Well! Hubby did install new game, (microsoft flight simulator) thought of that so went into add remove programmes and got rid, as for cleaning inside of case yes we do, il try the adding administrator thing now though xx Quote
danzil Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 If the above doesnt work i would attempt a system restore in safe mode. start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. load that up and choose a date previous to all this happening then click restore.....your pc will reboot, try logging in then.. You will not lose any of your recent data, and it is completely reversible (sounded like a MS quote ha). let me know if that helps...but try what the other guys suggested first. regards danzil :) Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D

Goku Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What Operating System are you using? Also, are you able to access the account in Safe Mode? -- Goku Quote
Dawn73 Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 we got windows xp, and yes i can acess account in safe mode. Quote
Goku Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Please try changing the password for your current account and see if it helps or not. If that doesn't work, then I think you have been infected with Malware. I will rule out that possibility for now though. -- Goku Quote
RandyL Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 tried system restore and all i got was pop up saying system restore cannot protect my puter and to try rebooting and try again I have never seen that message when using System Restore. Dalo Harkin Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I highly recommend that people set a cmd.exe shortcut. but for less advanced users it can also be accessed by start/all programs/accessories/command prompt. Seth Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I have never seen that message when using System Restore. This might be an infection issue. Agreed. From the Safe Mode boot menu, try "Last Known Good Configuration" and run the scans I'm about to mention. If that doesn't work to run the scans, go back to that menu and choose "Safe Mode with Networking" and run online scans with Ewido and Eset. Follow that up by updating and running complete scans with SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
