Guest AAH Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Lexmark printer with display indicator "Cover Open" got struck. None of the button on the panel works. The cover appears to be in proper place. Should I rush to the store to buy new one or ..... ? Thanks for any early advice.

This is a decision we face almsost every day because so many of our gadgets now have: 1. Functional component (e.g. Lexmark cover latch) 2. Sensor (open/closed) 3. Message routine (to display #2 data about #1 function.) The purpose of ## 2 and 3 is to inform you why the printer will not print -- because of an undocumented cutout between the print function and the cover latch. The link was designed to protect you from electric shock, as well as to protect the printer mechanism from damage. But when troubleshooting you now have three subsystems to check, not just one. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)
Guest Dan Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Re: Lexmark Printer Also, I don't like the constant nagging to buy a printer cartridge when the printer cartridge works fine. Actually, I have run the black cartridge so low that the printer was forced to use the other colors to make black ink. <grin> "Don Phillipson" wrote: > "AAH" <aah@chakcomnet.net> wrote in message > news:%23dsJKwj4HHA.4476@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > > Lexmark printer with display indicator > > "Cover Open" got struck. I suspect that your problem is a dirty switch or optical sensor. It's probably an easy fix if you know how. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email.
