Guest T5 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I have a Sony VGN-A617B Laptop running XP Home, I have noticed that a lot of my drivers are quite old, i checked with driver agent and I am running 50% bad drivers but win update doesn't download updated drivers and the drivers that driver agent recommends don't work either. What should I do? For instance my ATI mobility x600 Graphics card has an installed driver going back to 2005, there is a 2007 driver but for whatever reason I cannot download and install it.

Don't use Driver Agent. 2. If things aren't broken, don't mess with them. 3. Don't ever install drivers from Windows Update. In your case, you should only get drivers for that machine from Sony. Seriously, there is no reason to update drivers unless something you are trying to do isn't working. In most cases, this means that gamers need to update their video and sound drivers to squeeze every bit of performance out of their hardware for the latest games and/or to solve an issue with a game not working. Since you have a laptop, you're not doing that kind of high-intensity gaming. So find something else to worry about and leave your drivers alone. ;-) Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers http://www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User

Usually with this kind of Laptop there is an update manager called Vaio update or something similar, you need to read the manual on how to set up the Viao manager update to get you the latest updates for your Laptop drivers. What should I do? If it aint broke, dont fix it no matter how old your drivers are. And, you are probably most lucky that the drivers update didn't work. -- http://www.bootdisk.com/
