Now, when I put a cd with files in the drive the drive just blinks slow at

first then blinks fast and sits there. When I go to my computer and click on

drive d an error pops up and says there is an I/O error. any help would be

appreciated

Certainly has the symptoms of a dead drive. If so, the only cure is

replacement. Check your disks in another drive on another computer.

CD repair for XP:

http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

Also try the following. You should back up the registry before making

changes:

Click Start, Run, type Regedit, click OK.

Locate this Registry Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]

Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the

data values.

Exit Registry and Reboot

CDrom drives dont last forever, often even less time than hard drives

depending on how much you use them.
