firewall question

Is there a specific file that ZoneAlarm can block on my PC that won't allow

me to connect to the internet, email, control panel, or even open folders in

Explorer view? The error message is "Windows cannot access specified

device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access

the item". I am the Administrator. If I shutdown ZA ver7, everything returns

to normal. Even using ERNDT to restore the registry to 2 days previous

configuration does not help. Having problems logging into ZA's forum to post

the question so I came here for now. I can re-install ZA if need be. Thanks,

Steve T.

I don't know of any such file. There error message isn't much help though.

I am running ZA ver 7, but I have never had such a problem.

Even though you are the Administrator, the permissions may no allow you

access.

Being the Administrator just gives you the ability to change the

permissions.

Sorry, I don't believe this is a registry problem. People are too quick to

blame

the registry for every problem.

Lastly, reinstalling ZA ranks right there with blaming the registry.

I would search the event logs for more information about the vague error

message.

Re: firewall question

Thanks Jim. I checked the error logs and it keeps referring to MsiInstaller

and .NET Framework 1.1 -configuration failed. I've had an update icon in my

taskbar for weeks but the update fails to install every time. It is KB928366

and it says it is for Service Pack 1. My PC has all of the updates current

except for IE 7 (I have it hidden) and the above. Steve T.

There seems to be a flaw somewhere in the installer for this update. Lots

and lots of

people have had a problem with installing this update. ZA has nothing to do

with

this problem though.
