how to get rid of installer

Hello Group:

My new laptop (Sony) came with a trial version of MS Office 2007. I

didn't want it, so I uninstalled it and installed a newly purchased

version of MS Office Small Business 2003.

Now when I open Outlook (2003), I get a message from the Business

Contact Manager for Outlook 2007, presumably the installer, telling me

that the feature I am trying to use is on a network source that is

unavailable.

On line search provides detailed steps for getting rid of the

installer for the 2007 Beta, but not precisely for my current

situation, with a different version rather than a a beta.

Apologies if this is posted to the wrong group, and I'll be happy to

look elsewhere if so directed.

With thanks.

Welcome to the world of overly-complex MS software. My advice is dump

OL and use Thunderbird or Eudora. Outlook is known for being an easy

target for exploits. The same with IE.

Before Installing Office 2003, you should have used the following MS

Tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This tool removes the registry entries for unwanted programs like Office

2007 and so it never interferes with other installations. The tool does

work with Office 2007 although the article does not mention this. I

have tried it and it works worked for me.

I suggest read the "ReadMe.txt file attached to that article to see if

it is of any help to you.

Agreed. I personally use Firefox and Thunderbird, but the new laptop

is for my son, who was used to IE and OL at work and wanted to keep

it. What a mess.

Thanks to all who replied. I did download the cleanup utility, but for

some reason I can't remember, it did not work. (Laptop has now gone

back to my son's until I have more time to work on it.)

I also tried all the steps in this complex article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218

which is about seven printed pages. No luck there either, although I

didn't remove all of the registry entries, since some of them refer to

office 11 - 2003.

I am furious at Sony for the installed trial version without warning

that it would be nearly impossible to uninstall.

I appreciate the suggestions and will continue working. I'll also post

in an office group.
