Hi i have a 250GB portable hard drive by hitachi that i secured with storagecrypt v2.0. However after having encrypted it i had some pc problems resulted in an uninstalled storagecrypt. When i reinstalled storagecrypt i dosent detect my portable hard drive and it seems to also hide my drive from the computer. Now my drive is totally undetected even when i plug it in. While searching the net i came across a review that i could solve this by formatting my drive and recover my files via a recovery program. However i have not been able to detect my drive in anyway and hence have not been able to format it. It dosent even show up in disk management. Hopefully someone knows how to detect my drive and help me recover the files. Please reply asap thx!

Hi Bleh

Welcome to FPCH

Is there an instance of a corrupt drive showing in Disk Management at all?

Does it show if using windows explorer at all?

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Bleh. :)

The problem you are facing seems to be due to a bug in Windows XP. Thankfully, there is a Hotifx from Microsoft available to resolve the issue. Here is the Knowledge Base article that links to it.

New drive or mapped network drive not available in Windows Explorer

Download and install the recommended Hotfix and reboot your computer. Now, plug in the drive and see if it is detected or not. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. :)

Also, never format your removable drive if it has valuable data on it. There is no guarantee that a file recovery program will be able to recover your data back.
