Re: Hard Drive problem

Hello Ivan,

You might have to go into administrative tools/Disk management to format the new hard drive and

create partitions on it. Thereafter it should show up under My Computer.

Re: Hard Drive problem

Run compmgmt.msc. Click on Disk Management. Partition the new drive and

format the partition(s).

Power on self-test (POST) has nothing to do with the bios summary of

established hard drive(s) recognized by the bios. POST normally occurs

before RAM count. Some cues are the keyboard may lightup, and you may hear

a single beep. (The single beep, if not heard if normally heard, is a cue

of a problem). More audible beeps is more of a problem.

"My Computer" is sourced from windows explorer. Its examining roots of

partitions/cd and dvd drive media/external drive partitions/ etc., not hard

drives per se. You can open windows explorer directly with start/all

programs/accessories/windows explorer. You can blame Microsoft on the

wording of "drive". In that specific case, they mean partition. The

partition must exist on an added hard drive for recognition by windows

explorer. Simply adding a new hard drive does not perform this function of

creating and formatting a partition on a newly added hard drive. As I'm

sure you'll agree, a partition is by no means a drive by any manner, shape,

or form.

Re: Hard Drive problem

Gary,

You forget XP automatically runs a format on created partitions.

Re: Hard Drive problem

Yup, I did. I so seldom use XP to do my partitioning.

Re: Hard Drive problem

Partition Commander here at boot time, and on floppy if I need it.

System Commander here as boot manager, a trouble for many newer cloning and

imaging programs. Still no problem with old DriveImage 7. Imagine that.
