Everytime when I go to do "Windows Update" I am told the installation etc has

failed. Why is this and how can i fix it? Seems like i have the update

shield as a permanent fixture down on the toolbar.

Re: Windows Update........need help

Try This: Click on Start, click on Run and enter Services.msc then OK.

Start the Background Intellegent Transfer Service (BITS). Then try Windows

Update again.

There can be a lot of troubleshooting techniques for that, but the most

basic one I can give you right here: Try *temporarily* disabling your

anti-virus or anti-malware programs, then downloading. Probably 50% of

the time, that's what the problem is. IOW, there's no guarantee that

will work, but there is a decent chance it will.

It was set to start already so I stopped it and restarted it. I then tried

to do an "Update" again but all 23 downloads failed. Now what do I do?

Re: Windows Update........need help

Having had the same problem, I was also advised by Microsoft to put

http://*microsoft.com in Trusted Sites (under Security in the internet

options).

Those two things, BITS and trusted sites, did the trick for me.

Re: Windows Update........need help

I have done that plenty of times and they all tell you to do the same thing

over and over...they didn't help any. Plus they are very very low in

responding with help.
