Re: Icons

Desktop icons are normaly stored under C:\Documents and

Settings\your_user_name\Desktop\

They appear as file type = shortcut, when viewed via windows explorer.

There may also be some icons under C:\Documents and Settings\all

users\Desktop\, which should appear for all users.

If no shortcuts can be found at these locations, then you do have a major

problem (likely virus), failing disk, etc.

If shortcuts appear at these location, but not on your desktop, that would

be an odd behavour. However, I have seen things like that when XP is

"confused". Rebooting usually fixes such problems. Sometimes a simple

right-click on a blank seciton of decktop, then refresh will suffice.

As a test, you shoud be able to make a desktop icon from within windows

explorer, by right-clicking on any file, then send to, desktop (create

shortcut).

One possible way to "fix" your current problem, would be to use the XP

system restore to a time before the problem was first observed. This may

not work, but it is at least there is a chance.
