DSTM Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) Hi Guys,Wondering if you could help a friend of mine with a number of problems. This is what I know. Move this if in the wrong Forum,Please. She is not getting any satisfaction where she posted,on another site.Too slow. XP SP2 IE6,FF and Netscape. Cant get IE to load web pages hardly at all. Says all the time IE has to close. Tried to run Kapersky Scan with IE. NO GO.This is a screen shot. http://i34.tinypic.com/282hwnm.png Tried to run Kapersky Scan with FF. 3 times failed half way through. 4th time successful. On boot up full screen over startup screen, shows C:Program folders covering full screen. No sound out of speakers or headphones useing voip or games. Says no device found ---Speaker icon gone from Task bar. When useing voip she cant hear me,through headset, occassionally through PC speakers.and I cant hear her whatsoever. Tried System Restore to no avail. Run HJT-clean Run Kapersky- clean Run CheckDisc Installed Malwarebytes-clean scan Installed SAS run scan.342 cookies. Ditched Zone alarm,Spybot and Ad-Adware Windows Firewall at present Has Messenger. Wondering what avenue of attack next? Could Tool bars or a program altered IE settings? Should she reset IE to default? If so,how? What will she lose and have to reinstall is set to default? Any clues would be much appreciated.:) Edited August 12, 2008 by DSTM Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
maynardvdm Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hi You can try the Restore Advanced Settings or Reset(Note Reset will make everything to default again) Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7:Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Restore Advanced Settings or click Reset When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times. Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7. Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I agree Doug that upgrading to IE7 is a good place to start. After that resetting the advanced settings will eliminate the IE add-ons. Goku Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Did she install any updates recently? If yes, then the following article might be useful to her. Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 unexpectedly exits after you install the 918899 update Also, can you gain more information about the error by clicking on the click here box. It would help in determining the cause of the problems. :) -- Goku Quote
