Guest Laughingstar~* Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 MS is determined that I download, and keep (!) WMP v. 11. I do not need a retail store on my system, and remove it weekly. I've written to his Nibs about this, w/o a response, and I've heard others have, too. Is this a useless plea? I'm also receiving updates not applicable to my computer's programs, and have checked with OE NG about this, and I won't cause any harm by refusing to download the constant updates for Outlook, which is not on my computer. Please if this is applicable for this NG, tell me how to keep MWP v. 11 off of my computer--its like a trojan. Thank you, everyone. -- ct~·´¯`·.¸. , . ..·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>¸. ><)))º>·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·.. ><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>

Just don't install it! I don't have it on any of my Windows machines. Pay attention to what you install next time. Don't just allow automatic Windows Updates to install - set to download and notify you first, choose "Custom" instead of "Express" installation, and look at what you're doing before you do it. Outlook is Email only and a part of the Office Suite. I suspect you are being offered Outlook Express updates, which is the default email/newsreader program for Windows machines. As others have said, use the custom update from the windows update site and hide the updates you don't want to install. I believe there is a way to stop updates through automatic updates also, but I don't use that.
Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Re: Since using XP Pro... I've never seen WMP 11 forced on anyone. You mean to tell me that it's installed by Automatic Updates? That would be a first. We've already discussed the others. Can you tell me which Outlook updates, specifically, are being offered? Also, use Add/Remove Programs to access the Office Installer. Is Outlook completely disabled there? I have all of Office installed EXCEPT any part of Outlook, and I've never been offered any Outlook Updates. -- Gary S. Guest mae Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Since using XP Pro... I have never had WU/MU offer WMP11 as a Security Update nor from the notification of Automatic updates in tray. I have only had WU/MU notify of related WMP security issues. Manually going to the site and scanning, WMP11 dues not appear in Express. Optionally choosing Custom does have it in the list. I have WMP set to check for updates monthly. When I open WMP, it does notify me at specified interval. Perhaps that is how the OP downloaded but they stated it installed as " Security Update". I don't think that should have happened. -- mae "Gary S. Terhune" <none> wrote in message news:urCTcBD5HHA.484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... | I've never seen WMP 11 forced on anyone.
