Hello, first post...

I did do a search but couldn't trace this one.

Just bought a new PC: Zoostorm Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 1TB 4GB DVD RW NVIDIA 8500GT 512MB Vista Home Premium - Ebuyer and this monitor: **£40 Cashback** Samsung T220 22" TFT Monitor 1680x1050 20,000:1 2ms VGA/DVI Rose Black 3 Years Onsite Warranty - Ebuyer and have been trying to install Flight Sim X for over a day now. Normally it'll hang during the first disc although I have got as far as half way through the scond before it hangs. I, probably stupidly, tried copying both discs to my desktop and tried installing it from there but no luck. Normally after it's hung, I can't then turn the PC off but have to hold the power swith in to turn it off. Not sure whether it's a hardware conflict or what but it's really getting to me now!

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome...

Thanks.

Peter.

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Peter.

Is the computer having any other issues? Can you install other programs?

A couple of options to try, is attempt the install with a different optical drive and/or disable any security programs for the install.

Do you also know if it will install on a different computer?

Hi Seth,

No other problems, have installed quite a few progs without any issues and I have tried disabling security and shutting down other progs running in the background (Steam, etc). I also put my old NEC ND4570A IDE drive in today without any joy. I'm stumped... I have contacted XFX to see if they think it might be an issue with the graphics card, not heard back yet...

Thanks.

Typically if there is some sort of compatibility issue in such a case, the installer would produce an error, rather than hang.

Now comes the fun part of trying to determine if it's the game, or your computer.

Can you try installing it on another computer?

Also, the developers may send you a link for a direct download of the game.

Thanks again Seth. I will try installing it on another pc now, should have thought of trying that. I have started a dialogue with the card manufacturer now, see if they can help...

Thanks Goku. :)

It turned out to be a software conflict. I downloaded Process Explorer and noticed that InCD (part of Nero) was active when the install hung so I uninstalled Nero and all was good... :D

Nice place you have here...
