Guest Steve Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 We just recently replaced our old servers with new ones running Windows Server 2003 Std SP2 We are running Veritas (Symantec) Backup Exec 10 for our nightly backups. Our old servers were running Windows Server 2003 SP1 Now whenever we try to backup Shadow Copy Components through Backup Exec on ANY of the new servers we receive the following error in Backup Exec: A failure occurred accessing the Writer metadata I already looked at the following article: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/264350.htm The VSS service is already set to Manual. I checked its status and there are no error and it says that its stable. I tried running sfc /scannow All of the Hotfixes from Microsoft that deal with VSS are for SP1 but we have SP2 with all the latest updates. What else can we do to resolve this issue? Symantec support is referring us to Microsoft. There has to be fix without paying $500 and spending hours on the phone with MS. Thanks,

After doing the above I was able to view my vss writers, also after right clicked the backup job properties, credentials, tested all and they finally worked. Hopefully, my backup will run tonight without failing shado copy components. EggHeadCafe - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com
