Hi Jason

Have you had the side off the pc before today as you may have inadvertently dislodged the graphics card if it is a card and not onboard.

Also check all motherboard connections and memory sticks are secure and the cpu heatsink is free from dust and get back to us.

Also you mentioned that you cleared the CMOS - did you go back into the BIOS and set the options again ?.

yes i,ve had the side off before and cleaned it all out. all connections on mother board are fine. as i said it was working fine up until i shut down. then upon booting back up later i then got message on monitor no input connection detected. the computer itself seems to work as all the lights on system light up, but the dvd and cd lights seem to be on alot more than prevoius.

only tried to clear cmos after trouble started to see if that would have any affect. but no it didn't do anything.

Disconnect any unneeded devices from the mobo, and see if you can get a display.

If you have two ram sticks, try one at a time.

If you have a separate video card, as well as a video output on the mobo, then remove the card and try the mobo's video output.

There is also an option in the BIOS that is called initialise display type - and the options are VGA, PCI and PCI-E.

as Seth has said if you have an add in GPU - would say it's PCI-E - make sure it's set to PCI-E and if that doesn't work then change to VGA mode if you have onboard graphics.

The HDD light staying on is not a good sign at all -

please recheck the HDD cables - power and IDE -

do you have any splitters on the HDD power lead?

1. Do you have onboard graphics or a seperate graphics card?

2. If you have a seperate graphics card, take it out and use the onboard graphics.

3. Make sure the monitor has power and is switched on.

its an on board graphics card. and no there is no splitters in the hdd lead and the monitor has power and is switch on. and all other leads and cables seem secure enough. i'm starting to believe it may need new mobo and or hdd. it's doing my head in.

ps. i'll just have to pinch our lasses laptop. lol:D

pps. i hate computers.

are you still hearing the standard bios beep when your pc turns on (just a quick beep during startup). if so this could be a ram issue.or maybe the on board gpu is faulty...do you have a spare graphics card hanging about,...you maybe able to install that and it will get you back up and running.:)
