Guest micheal Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I was wondering if it was possible to keep a server or NAS device on the network and in the domain, and have it NOT visible to end users when they browse My Network Places.

How to "hide" machine on network Hello, hidding a nas may be hard, as netbios is required to map network share... Instead, you prevent users from browsing the network place at all. You sould not consider this as a security mesure. Any few experienced hackers will find it much easily... Why do you want to hide it ? protect from listing available share ? -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "micheal" <micheal@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:DCE283BD-CB20-4402-A9A6-440C9782F29B@microsoft.com... >I was wondering if it was possible to keep a server or NAS device on the > network and in the domain, and have it NOT visible to end users when they > browse My Network Places.
Guest Jeff Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Dumb question time! How to "hide" machine on network A quick and easy way to do this on a windows server is to add a "$" to the share name... like "sharedfolder$" There are also reghacks to hide systems from the network when browsing. --Jeff "Mathieu CHATEAU" <gollum123@free.fr> wrote in message news:e02qTuD5HHA.4880@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Hello, > > hidding a nas may be hard, as netbios is required to map network share... > > Instead, you prevent users from browsing the network place at all. > > You sould not consider this as a security mesure. Guest NW Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Dumb question time! How to "hide" machine on network What about using Access Based Enumeration? Experts? This is a tool to prevent the visibility to folders that one doesn't have access to. My guess is it only hides the shared folders and not the machine itself?
