Guest Marc Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 We are currently running an Active Directory network off of Windows Server 2003 R2 and when attempting to run "net view" on some machines, the machine responds with "there are no entires in the list" and on other machines it provides all the computers on the network. Any idea why this is occurring? Thanks!
Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Net View command not working - says "there are no entries in the l Hi Marc, Check your Computer Browser service on the affected machines, that it is installed and running. The computer browser service is installed with the Client for Microsoft Networks. Within your nic's local area connection properties confirm that this is listed and checkmarked, if its not you can install it via the Install button. Make sure that you have the Computer Browser service correctly setup on your network, the browstat command is excellent for this. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/9f5414c1-2847-4253-ad69-d5ed5f900e7d1033.mspx?mfr=true http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188001 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843517/en-us If you use the computer browse service (net view) so that client PCs can browse through MyNetworkPlaces, and if your network is on the larger side, you may want to consider using WINS as its much more network efficient for this purpose (the browser service can be very broadcast chatty). However to do this you would still need the computer browser service running on your DC servers as well as disabled on all client pcs. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/babc5a09-0561-44a5-884c-d2dfaa5b10191033.mspx?mfr=true Coraleigh Miller "Marc" <Marc@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C3887C1D-53D5-4D01-ACB8-AC5A36021948@microsoft.com... > We are currently running an Active Directory network off of Windows Server > 2003 R2 and when attempting to run "net view" on some machines, the > machine > responds with "there are no entires in the list" and on other machines it > provides all the computers on the network. I installed the Netware Network client in the Network Connection Properties and now the whole network shows up. You should only need the Microsoft Network client, but installing the other seemed to fix what XP had broken. Worth a shot. You may be able to uninstall the Netware client after you restart, so you don't have the pop-up about connecting to Netware Network everytime you log in.
