Hello, I had an issue whereby my PC wouldn't load XP, I could enter safe mode but couldnt access system restore or any diagnostics. I was advised to turn off every driver in device manager and reboot in an attempt to find out what was causing the issue.

 Now I cant even access safe mode :(

I can access the BIOS so my question is how do I turn the drivers back on? Is this at all possible?

Hello Gasman

Welcome to FPCH

It sounds as if you have altered the boot sequence in the bios, make sure it's set to boot from the hard drive and make sure you save that setting when exiting the bios.

I agree with Wolfey on this one - if you can get into the BIOS then 'load optimised defaults' and then set the first boot device to HDD and 'save and exit'

Hi guys, yes I do have my XP disc . . but . . my dvdrom drive was suspect and one of the orignal issues that started all this.

Ive set the boot order to hard drive but that didn't solve the problem.

I did turn off the drivers for everything, including the HDD!

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Gasman. :)

I don't think it is a wise idea to turn off the HDD drivers. Please turn them back on as you might need them. Can you please elaborate on what problems you are having? Your current description does not explain your situation very clearly.

Also, do you have any important data on your computer that you might need to backup?

Hi

Change the boot order to CD\DVD first and Harddrive second.

Then put the Windows disk in and see if it boots from the Disk.

Allow me to reiterate,

My problem is this - I cannot acces the OS to turn any drivers back on, and yes, I know it was an extremely foolish thing to do but I did turn off all the drivers in safe mode through device manager then rebooted my machine. Now after I rebooted I can only access the bios menu. I cant get access to safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or any other item in the boot menu. I do get the option to use these but when I do the system attempts to reboot but doesn't and returns me the boot menu screen.

I can only access the BIOS so my question is - how do I turn the drivers back on? Is this at all possible?

Sorry if I sounded a little techy :o.

I will try the advice offered and get back to you. Thanks.

No need to be ashamed Gasman. We all learn from our experiences good or bad as they might be.

Just be sure to report back the results. :)
