Hi guys,

I bought and installed a nework router at the weekend (netgear) it works fine and I can access the internet on desktop and laptop fine. However I can now no longer access my works computer from home!!!!! Tried ringing netgear to sort but they don't seem to be able to do it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

Do you get any error messages when trying to connect to the work computer?

Also how did you connect before you go the router?

Try removing the Netgear router and see if you still connect. That you verify that the network admins at your work haven't changed anything.

Everyone else at work can get on fine, so its definatly a problem with the router and works system. I normally (before the installation of the router) log onto works computer via desktop icon that connects me to the network and then go to Remote desktop connection and put in the password.

Since I installed the wireless router I can't get on.

When you use a router - it changes the IP address etc - your work will be set to recognise your pc - after installing the Netgear router - you no longer have the same IP address.

how do you connect to your work.

do you use a dial up vpn connection......start>connect>"connection name".

if so you may need port forwarding open... or you may have pptp blocked.

or do you use a router to router connection.

who is your isp (so we can rule out ip address change,(so we know if your ip is a static or dynamic ip).

what is the exact error you are recieving.
