Guest Angel Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: Installing Windows 98 98 Guy, People come up here for help. You decide that they are to follow YOUR rules on posting?? You really should not delete their words in the posting. Why? because when you do, you make it almost impossible for people to understand the REAL problem! Top posting is not lazy. I do not think that it is necessary to follow your rules. I think that you are being *a nit picker*on minimal matters, the things that do not matter. We really do not pay attention how some post, we just are asking for help and not criticism on how we write our post, just that our posts are understandable as to get the help we need. Top, bottom, or inline posting, as one sees fit, all sound fine. No. I delete stuff because that stuff doesn't need to be posted (quoted) AGAIN unless I'm responding directly to it. To drag several old posts along with every reply makes no sense. If I want to read the older posts, I can go back to them. Seems that too many people think that their reply must contain ALL of the accumulated posts in the thread - as if it's the only copy in existance. > No need to delete any part of the post. It just messes it up!! If you want to make a more organized, comprehensible and readable reply, you should quote only the material that you are replying to. Remember that the original post still exists on usenet, in it's entirety. > I guess some are just enjoying doing so. Some people know how to construct a more useful, readable, and concise reply. This was what usenet was like before it became mangled by people using OE to post to it, as if they were having an e-mail conversation with someone.

Guest Angel Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Re: Installing Windows 98 MEB, I was going by the computers that the library in this town has the last time I checked. It used to be that they would not allow you to bring in a floppy of your own. They used to not allow you to go to email because of virus, that has changed. Now they allow it. Before that, I used to go to the computer room in the University to get info. for class and other information. They had other computer rooms around the University. We were allowed to bring in our own floppy. I guess it all depends on where you are. Maybe he could go to a "Kinko's". I never used their computers. All I know is some have computers for public use. Tad anal with the "outsiders" in a "public" forum MEB? BTW I didn't "tell" anyone how to post, just suggest a couple of items that were "good practice". Is the use of the "we" an attempt to isolate others from your narrow views? (Or a indication of a closed mind) Have you been appointed the CEO of this Public News Group, to restrict free comment?

Let's make this simple so perhaps you and others can understand. In technical discussions, unless one has the background information available in the thread; when the search engines pop-up the thread's article pursuant some search string, phrase or other query; your idea of proper posting would leave the search without the background information necessary for understanding. Unlike you, those queriers have NOT followed the discussion, they just want the information. Now, would WE [the users/major posters of this group] follow this ignorant approach you and others seem to be fostering, WE would be neglecting our responsibility to the users/readers of these informative materials. Sorry you seem incapable of understanding. So take this uninformed attitude to the other forums, where much of the blather, and junk CAN and should be removed. WE [the users of this forum], don't need this ignorance here, OR make an effort to actually understand the INTERNET and networking, and related data bases of information. Myself, I allow for the most part, the original querier to cut materials when they feel the answer has been supplied in the form they understand. That seems to provide a much better answer, as that perhaps reflects others mental capacities. Did this answer YOUR question? Or should I continue until you get a better understanding of the Internet. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com ________

Guest Angel Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Re: Installing Windows 98 MEB, They both, the University and the public library are using XP. Guest Angel Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Re: Installing Windows 98 Hi Logs, Why would you want a boot CD? As I remember, you said that the computer you were having trouble with had a floppy drive. A floppy drive version may be the only one that you can use to do that computer. Ben Myers gave you the site to get a download of the floppy disk free. This was on 8/29/07 at 7:04 AM. The site, so you do not need to look it up was: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm maybe they have a CD version there at the same site. I have not tried to find out if they have a CD version. It may download to a CD if you do not have a floppy drive. I know that McAfee Version 10 will download to a CD if you do not have a floppy drive. A while back, I suggested for you to go to a library or a Kinko's to use their computer, to download to a floppy. You can try both suggestions. Angel ..
