not creating IP session printer

Recommended Posts

Posted

Here is the problem(s).

When some users connect to the terminal server it will NOT redirect any IP

printers. Some users it will redirect IP printers.

The printers that are redirected, on the workstation I can give the user

manage printer under the security tab, but on the terminal server this right

will not hold.

We also use Novell NDPS printers and they are redirected but the manage

printers right will not hold.

I do have a user that all works correctly with an IP printer that is

redirected. I am at my wits end over this and ANY help is greatly

appreciated!!

Dumb question but you have installed the print drivers onto the terminal

server....

Jeff,

Do you actually have to install the printer? I believe not, but I did

actualy do that. The drivers are present on the server but the printers do

not get redirected. As I said below I have one user that ALL works

correctly. I have the same IP printer installed on my laptop and it is the

exact same model as hers.

If you using redirected printers then yes you do need to install the

drivers on the server. Have you checked that the client is setup to

redirect printers?

Re: not creating IP session printer

Jeff,

When you say "install the drivers on the server" what exactly does this

mean? Do I have to install the printer on the server? If that is the case I

have. What if the driver is included with windows? Do you have a KB article

you can direct me too? It is a very strange problem. Yes the client is

setup to redirect printers, in my case it will redirect NDPS printers but not

my IP priters. For some users it will redirect IP printers. Thanks for the

help I really appreciate it.

Re: not creating IP session printer

Jeff,

I GOT IT!! It was not a driver issue. it seems that the stock RDP client

that comes with XP will NOT redirect IP printers??? At least that is what I

found. I got the latest RDP client and it works fine. Thanks for all your

input.

PS Do the driver versions have to match exactly.ie if the workstation has

version 123 and the server has 456 will it work?
