Guest Justin Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Basically that's it. Is there a utility I can find that will replace underscores with spaces in well over 100 files?

You can use the full-features of the program for free by going through a simple "please pay for this" screen. TC is so good at so many things that it has a near-fanatical following.

Don't do it - Spaces in file names is the worst thing that MS ever permitted. I have one client using Office XP and when they add full punctuation to file names, since MS allows files to be created like that, it causes no end to problems searching files. It also causes problems when you do command line actions and don't put the path/name in quotes... Some software, third party, has issues with file names with spaces... Just a bad move to use spaces in any file/path name. -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

I've had no problems with them. If the OP wants to rename files and replace underscores with spaces, there is a batch file renamer included in Irfanview, the free image viewer. -- Zilbandy

The free image viewer/converter software "Irfanview" has a batch filename rename function that will do what you want very easily. -- Zilbandy

There's a really good program for dealing with name changing with multiple files, called "1-4a Rename". It don't look like much but it's feature-rich and fairly easy to work with. http://www.1-4a.com/rename/ Take a look at the examples on the site. If all the files have the same name like a winrar achieve, check "Replace" and replace 'this' with the full name of the file exactly as it reads without any numbers. As you type, you will see the changes being made in the far right section - Preview section. (no changes actually happen until you click on the START button. In the bottom box where it says 'by that' type in the new name or same name without the underscores. Hit Start. You can undo all the changes as long as you don't close out the program. Files that are not achieved and have different names, place an underscore in the box that has 'this' in it and remove the 'by that' in the bottom box and hit your spacebar so it knows you want a space. You should see the first underscore replaced with a space. Hit START and repeat the steps untill everything is the way you want it. It really is a great program and there's so much you can do with it. (Hit F2 to see the Advance side and hover your mouse over each section for an explanation.) Hope this helps you. Samantha
