Hi

First take out the CMOS battery for 30min and put it back. If that doesn't work try with the graphics card. Let us know how it goes.

i took the battery out and left it 5mins then put it back in but still no monitor:confused:. i got my graphics cards out only to find that they were all too big for the white slots on my motherboard:mad:.does this mean i've got to go out and buy one? thankyou
Posted (edited)

The white slots that you are referring to are PCI slots, chances are that the slot you have on your Motherboard for graphics is AGP 8X or 4X.

If the CMOS didnt work - if you leave the pc on (even though there is no monitor on) does the PC carry on being on or does it restart - when you put the CPU in - did you put more thermal paste on the heatsink and are you 100% sure that all the wires are connected and secure both in the PC and outside of it.

the pc stays on but the monitor doesn't, i only have the one pc so i turned it of and put the new cpu in it with thermal paste and it was still the same so i turned it off and took the new cpu out and replaced it with the old cpu and it works fine. all the wires are were they should be.. thankyou

Any chance of trying the old cpu again to be sure it's a cpu problem?

Did you remove any power connections on the mobo? I'm specifically referring to a 4 pin connector that powers the cpu.

it's the old cpu that i'm using now and it all works fine. ive checked all the wires and everything is as it should be.

Put the new cpu back in, and make sure no pins are bent.

If it still doesn't work, then you should return the cpu.

Right the NEW CPU may not be supported by the BIOS that you have installed - go to the Motherboard manufacturers website and download the latest BIOS update - install it with the old CPU in and then power down and put the new one in and see how it goes.

Dalo,

Any chance Maria will need to change the bus speed or something like that?

BTW- Good point on the bios upgrade.

The Bus speed should be the same - and if its set to AUTO doesn't matter - SEMPRON chips are later model and I seriously think the BIOS needs a flash.

SEMPRON were the later, budget chips and as such were not originally supported.

This is the latest BIOS I could find drivers.softpedia.com/get/BIOS/Aopen/Aopen-MK73LE-V-Bios-103.shtml

Ok. TKS

My shop hasn't replaced a mobo or cpu in a very long time, but I seem to recall with some mobo's you had a couple of jumpers in relation to the cpu specs such as bus speed.

I guess they just put the jumpers there in case you couldn't get into the bios for whatever reason.

i downloaded that then run it and a black screen popped up and then went! does that mean it's done? i've no idea what jumpers are or what to do with them? thankyou

It's a .zip file, so you need to right click on it and choose "Extract All".

I'll check it out.

It did the same for me as well, but what should have happened was a message appearing saying "Do you want to install, etc".

I found this which shows that the board is only compatible with a Duron and Athlon, and it only supports a FSB of 200 MHz.
