Hi, up until a month ago i could get sound from my computer, then my speakers got thrown away by accident as they were very old. I recieved a pair of speakers (Dell Model A225) which has a green wire and a USB plug. These do not work and i have tried umpteen times to find a driver from them on the net to no avail.

Now i find out that i have no sound audio advice on my computer and i have tried to troubleshoot on the net but again it has come to no avail.

So i was wondering whether anyone could help me out?

My PC is made by NEC Computers,

The system is POWERMATE VL5,

I am on Windows XP Home Edition version 5.1

if anyone would like any more info the i could get it to you but i am not that well clued up on the techincal side of computers.

Many Thanks

p.s having read through a few of the posts on this forum and seeing the replies, i cannot do a system restore as i have no dates to go back to.

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help TomTom.

Right click on "My Computer" and choose Manage, then Device Manger. You should see your sound card there with an exclamation mark, or a question mark in front of it. Right click on it and choose uninstall. Restart the computer and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver for the card.

If that doesn't work, we can find the driver on the net for you.

BTW- The USB plug is what supplies power to amplifier in the speakers.

The driver for your sound card can be found here, but note that the VL5 comes in 3 or 4 different versions:

You're welcome.

I don't use that extracting program, but "Choose to Run With Unzip" should unzip the folder and begin the installation.

Done that, but the small box still apears, have the files been moved to somewhere on my computer where i could access it?

I have found the unzipped files and there is alot of them. Having a guess i clicked the "InstallShield ® Setup Launcher" and it was going ok until it got to 80% when it came up as "Tool for Driver Device error" and then it came up as "Maintainence is now complete, please restart your computer"

is this not the right setup?

That should have started the driver installer automatically.

Right click on the zipped folder again, but choose "Unzip". You will be asked for the location to save the unzipped file to. Choose the desktop and in the new folder you should have a file that says "Install. Double click that.

In the meantime, I'll download the driver and check it ot.

What exact model of the VL5 do you have?

You have the incorrect driver.

The drivers for the Audio on the vl5's are all the same, and they are a 5320.

Delete the previous stuff you downloaded and go here. The link may not go directly to the download:

Unzip just as you did, and double click on the same Setup Launcher in the newly unzipped folder.
