Guest resonator80 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I have Windows XP Professional, Build 2600.xpsp.050329-1536 (Service Pack 2). I get notification of windows update and apparently download them successfully. I then say install them. This always fails and gives me the notice that all the updates have failed to install. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill Edelstein Baltimore, MD

Method 1: You may wanna try downloading Windows Update Agent 3.0 manually, save it to a folder and run the EXE with parameter "/wuforce" (without the quotes) afterwards: http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe Start -> Run -> "[Complete Path to EXE]\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce [Hit Enter key] Method 2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914224/en-us If both fail, please provide the error code to be found in the "Windowsupdate.log" file in your Windows folder. F'up2 microsoft.public.windowsupdate (Answers to this message should show up in the Windows Update newsgroup exclusively) Bye, Freudi
Guest R. McCarty Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Re: Windows updates do not install Using Microsoft Update or Windows Update. Either way do you get a Hexadecimal error code when the installations fail ? The number of conditions for updates to fail is numerous. There are a few Microsoft Knowledge Base articles you can research. I'd start with the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906602 "resonator80" <w.edelstein@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1187815274.842793.291010@r23g2000prd.googlegroups.com... >I have Windows XP Professional, Build 2600.xpsp.050329-1536 (Service > Pack 2). > > I get notification of windows update and apparently download them > successfully. > > I then say install them. This may help fix a corrupt installer 1. Click on Start and Run, 2. Type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 3. Should get the message "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" Click OK. 4. Repeat above for each of the following: REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL REGSVR32 ATL.DLL REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL 5. Reboot Now try to install your updates. Luck, s
Guest resonator80 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: Windows updates do not install Dear All, I followed a lot of the suggestions here. Nothing seemed to work, and then, suddenly, the downloads did work. I am not sure what did the trick, however. In any case, thanks very much to all!
