Guest Tim_S Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 How can I useing the registry, force a particular theme and menu style on... I am in a corporate enviroment, NON AD, all local accounts using novell... (yuck) For instance, I have a PC that the Classic start menu has been enabled by the user. How can I force this to be the XP style menu? It was enabled by going by right clicking on the task bar, then picking properties and clicking the start menu tab. They keep picking the Classic menu option there.... It is not applied using gpedit.msc in the administrative templates. Also would like to force the XP style theme as well... Which registry keys would I need to look at? To force the Start menu option on, and hide the Classic Start menu so it can't be selected...?? thanks...
Guest SteveL Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 RE: force xp theme This is normally setup by the Admin using group policy, which in most cases do not allow users like yourself to change any settings on their system. Check with your Novell Admin if you can do this. Guest Tim_S Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: force xp theme I am "the" novell admin... I want to change these settings directly in the registry. I am not using group policy and not setting local policy via the gpedit tool which i have disallowed use of to include regedit for the average users. I want to lock it down so the "Classic" is not selectable by using my log-in script.... and accomplish this by importing the appropriate registry keys using the command regedit /s x:\path\lockdown.reg "SteveL" <SteveL@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3C32B99C-50DE-4F10-A150-FCD71A6538B1@microsoft.com... > This is normally setup by the Admin using group policy, which in most > cases > do not allow users like yourself to change any settings on their system. > Check with your Novell Admin if you can do this. > > "Tim_S" wrote: > >> How can I useing the registry, force a particular theme and menu style >> on... >> >> I am in a corporate enviroment, NON AD, all local accounts using >> novell... >> (yuck) >> For instance, I have a PC that the Classic start menu has been enabled by >> the user. Guest John John Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: force xp theme Why are you wanting to do this? I mean, you can tell me it's none of my business and to go to hell but I think it's a bit draconian to not allow the users to have their desktop arranged in a manner that they find works best for them. I for one, *hate* the XP Themes Fisher Price look, I always use the Classic look and disable all themes related stuff. That is my personal preference, I don't care what others do, if they like themes then that is great for them and if they are having difficulties with their theme not working I try to help them and make it work as they like it, I don't try to force my likings and tastes on them. Those are merely cosmetic things, allow your users to have desktops that they are accustomed to and that they like, it will make happier and them more productive. What next? Are you going to tell them to put pictures of the boss' spouse and kids on their desks instead of that of their loved ones and are you going to tell left handers that henceforth they must use their right hand? Ok, that is my two cents, now I will shut up and go to hell... John Tim_S wrote: > I am "the" novell admin... > > I want to change these settings directly in the registry. Guest SteveL Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: force xp theme I agree with John, disable all themes and garbage that windows installs and conserve resourses which also reduces problems. Novell is one of the best server apps out there, less work to accomplish the same thing as Windows. "John John" wrote: > Why are you wanting to do this?
